About the school
Maseno School is a national boys' boarding secondary school located in Maseno town, Kisumu County, about 25 kilometres northwest of Kisumu City along the Kisumu-Busia Road. Established in 1906 by the Church Missionary Society as a school for the children of African chiefs, it is one of the oldest secondary schools in Kenya.
The school sits on the Equator, with a portion of its grounds in each hemisphere. The first classroom was a tent pitched under a hickory tree by Rev. James Jamieson Willis. The first students were six sons of local chiefs.
In the 2024 KCSE, the school recorded a mean score of 9.7286. Maseno is known for excellence in academics, rugby, and basketball. The school motto "Perseverance Shall Win Through" reflects its long-standing ethos of disciplined effort. Notable alumni include the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya's first Vice President.
