About the school
Moi Girls High School Eldoret is a national girls' boarding secondary school located along Elgeyo Road just outside the Eldoret Central Business District in Ainabkoi sub-county, Uasin Gishu County. The school traces its origins to 1928 when it was established as Highlands Primary School to serve the children of British and Boer settlers in what was then the White Highlands. It became a full girls' secondary school under the name New Girls' High School in 1954, with the broader 1950s and 1960s laying the foundation for its current legacy of academic and sporting excellence.
In 1978, the school was renamed Moi Girls High School - Eldoret in honour of its longest-serving board chairman, the late Daniel Toroitich arap Moi, who became the second President of Kenya that same year. He continued to chair the board until his retirement in 2007.
In the 2024 KCSE, the school recorded a mean score of 9.75. In 2023 it recorded 10.06 with 21 A grades and 129 A-, ranking 20th nationally. The school is placed in Cluster Three of Kenya's national school classification.
The school sits at the heart of Eldoret and is known for both academic rigour and consistent strength in girls' sports.
