About the school
Lenana School is a national boys' boarding secondary school located along Ngong Road in Dagoretti South Constituency, Nairobi, approximately 15 kilometres from the city centre. Founded on 28 January 1949 by colonial Governor Philip Euen Mitchell, the school was originally named the Duke of York School and reserved for European students.
After Kenyan independence in 1963, the school gradually admitted students of all backgrounds and was renamed Lenana School after the Maasai spiritual leader (laibon) Lenana. The school sits on 250 acres on the edge of Ngong Forest.
In the 2024 KCSE, the school recorded a mean score of 9.06. Lenana operates under Cluster Three of Kenya's national school classification. The school motto "Nothing but the Best" reflects its long emphasis on academic, sporting, and character excellence.
