About the school
Maranda High School is a national boys' boarding secondary school located in Bondo, Siaya County. Founded in November 1919 by Shadrack Osewe Agot, it is one of the oldest secondary schools in Kenya. The school began offering formal training in 1926 with the support of the Church Missionary Society and became a boys' boarding school between 1927 and 1928.
In the 2024 KCSE, the school had 562 candidates with 56 scoring A grade and 150 scoring A-, achieving a mean score of 9.6975 and a 95.78% pass rate. Maranda has consistently been one of the top-performing schools in the country, with a particular reputation for STEM achievement.
The school is located approximately 5 kilometres from Bondo town. Notable alumni include the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya's first Vice President. The current Senior Principal is Dr. Edwin Namachaja.
