About the school

Ng'iya Girls High School is a national girls' boarding secondary school located near Ng'iya town in Karemo, Alego Usonga constituency, Siaya County. Founded in 1923 as a primary school, the institution became a Teachers Training College in 1953, then a secondary school in 1962, admitting its first form one cohort whose O-Level exams were sat in 1965.

The school enrolled its first A-Level science class in 1971 and offered both Science and Arts A-Levels until the system was phased out in 1989. It was identified as a Centre of Excellence in 2010 and officially promoted to national school status in 2012.

In the 2025 KCSE, Ng'iya recorded a mean score of 8.6. Notable alumni include the late Grace Ogot, celebrated Kenyan author, nurse, journalist, diplomat, and politician; Prof. Mary Abukutsa-Onyango, humanitarian and agricultural scientist; and the late Grace Onyango, a pioneering Kenyan politician.

The school motto is "Build on the Rock."
